Malaysia-China Ties To Remain Strong With Academic Collaborative Efforts


UUM ONLINE: The deep-rooted and longstanding friendly relations between Malaysia and China would continue to remain strong since the establishment of diplomatic relations 40 years ago.

The two countries made their relations more multi-faceted and pervasive by including more area for cooperation such as education.Due to this positive development, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) strengthened its academic collaborative ties with various educational institutions of a high academic reputation in China.

Amongst the academic collaborative efforts developed were student mobility, internship training programme, Comprehensive English Learning Education Course programme (CELEC) and close cooperation in research and publication project.

The CELEC programme, which was introduced in year 2012, was helmed by Uniutama Education and Consultancy Sdn. Bhd. (UEC) and UUM Language Centre attracted more than 50 students from China, where Xindu No. 1 Senior High School was the majority to sign up for the programme.

UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said that the CELEC programme was set for international students to improve on their English language proficiency.

"The main objective of the CELEC programme course is to improve the students' English proficiency to a level that allows them to be eligible to continue their respective academic degree programmes which will commence in September," he said this at the Welcoming Dinner held in honour of delegation from Chengdu Education Bureau and Xindu No. 1 Senior High School at EDC-UUM, recently.

Xioa Ya Ling, 17, a student from Xindu No.1 Senior High School expressed his gratitude for he was given the opportunity to participate in this programme.

"I am delighted to be able to continue my study in Bachelor of Economics in UUM after attended the CELEC programme," he said.

Also present at the event were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs) Prof. Dr. Hassan Ali, Deputy Director of Chengdu Education Bureau, Xiao Fan; Vice-President of Xindu No.1 Senior High School, Yang Yongming; Director of UUM Offshore Office in China, Helen Liu Rong and senior university officials.
