UUM COB Summer School Promotes UUM To International Level

UUM ONLINE: To further intensify the Discover UUM 2016 programme, the UUM COB Office of Student Development and Alumni (PPACOB) welcomed students from Hatyai University to the month-long UUM COB Summer School programme which began on 25 July.

The Dean of PPACOB, Dr Hendrik Lamsali said the programme which involved a total of 72 students from the university’s School of Business would make UUM their home away from home for the next month while attending the various activities planned throughout the course of the Summer school. These students were also accompanied by six of their lecturers.

According to him, the 27-day Summer School programme came about in response to the Vice-Chancellor’s call for the respective Schools to do their part in promoting and increasing the wealth of the University.

"The purpose of this creditworthy mobility programme is to help promote UUM as well as the state of Kedah in accordance with the Discover UUM 2016, we at COB in a way would also be helping in generating wealth to the University with the presence of international students to UUM.

"In addition, this programme will intensify efforts to increase international mobility activity which is an important component of the QS World Ranking and at the same time, help in the branding and internationalization of UUM in general and COB in particular," he said.

According to Dr Hendrik, English Language courses and selected Management courses conducted by UUM COB lecturers and instructors from the Language Centre were among the courses planned throughout the summer school.

He also added that the participants would also be taken around campus and the surrounding areas to enjoy the beauty of the campus as their outside classroom activities.

He further reiterated that in order to ensure that the programme progressed smoothly, a total of six UUM COB students had been chosen to serve as volunteers for the programme. As volunteers, these students would indirectly improve their communication skills and self-branding when they socialise with these international students.

"Moreover, with the UUM COB Summer School programme up and running, successful generation of income is most certain. The SAC, Student Residential Halls, Sports Centre as well as local entrepreneurs too can benefit from this venture.

"PPACOB is very grateful with Hatyai University’s selection of UUM as the University for the Summer School programme as compared to other public universities in Malaysia which also offer similar programmes such as this," he said.
