UUM ONLINE: Kuala Lumpur, 1 November 2016 – The all-new Academia Cafe & Bistro at the Kuala Lumpur campus of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUMKL), the brainchild of UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, was inaugurated today by the Chairperson of the UUM Board of Directors, Tan Sri Siti Sa'diah Sheikh Bakir.
This is the second branch after the establishment in 2012 of Academia Lounge UUM at the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA), UUM.
Speaking at the ceremony, Tan Sri Siti Sa'diah said that the introduction of the Academia Cafe & Bistro at UUMKL was not just the establishment of an innovative product by the organization, but also the launch of a future competitor of greater innovative potential vis-a-vis the existing service providers in the city centre. In fact, she said, the Academia Cafe & Bistro would become increasingly relevant to the lifestyle of the current consumers.
Tan Sri Siti Sa'diah also suggested that the membership of the Academia Cafe & Bistro be opened to the academic staff members of other educational institutions from around Kuala Lumpur, such as Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and the like.
She went on to express her admiration for a job well done and also extended her utmost congratulations to UUM on coming up with the idea of establishing this metropolitan version of the Academia Lounge.
Meanwhile, in his welcoming remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of UUM stated that, aside from its being a means of generating revenue for the university, the main purpose of the establishment of the Academia Cafe & Bistro was to enable academic staff members to get together and hold meetings and discussions with students in a comfortable and laid-back setting.
He elaborated further that the Academia Cafe & Bistro boasted a novelty - a Celebrity Corner – a specially designated area in the Cafe where Malaysian artistes, mostly those currently enrolled as students of UUM, would stage live performances for the entertainment of its clientele.
With a capacity to accommodate about 100 patrons with ease, the Cafe provides its customers sufficient comfort with which to enjoy delicious meals at very reasonable prices. The Academia Cafe & Bistro also furnishes a VIP room for the convenience of special guests, as well as free WiFi access.
In addition, the Academia Cafe & Bistro has also introduced a membership package for academic staff members and postgraduate students, which provides its members with privileged service, discounts, free snacks and drinks, as well as rewards.
Moreover, members of the Academia Cafe & Bistro will enjoy the special discounts and privileges on offer for all the facilities at both the Academia Cafe & Bistro and EDC Hotels & Resorts, including all the products and services offered at EDC Hotels & Resorts.
The ceremony also witnessed 34 students of the Bachelor of Creative Industry Management (BCIM) programme, UUMKL Distance Learning Mode (PJJ), receive their Dean’s List Certificates, which were presented by the Vice-Chancellor of UUM. Among the students who made the Dean’s list were Pekin Ibrahim, Tomok, Zahid AF, Raja Mukhriz, and Aril AF.
