UUM ONLINE: A total of 52 students from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Chiang Mai University (CMU), Thailand, and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) took part in the UUM-CMU-USM International Student Conference (1st UCUC), organised by the Student Development and Alumni Office, UUM College of Business (PPA COB). The conference ran from 13 to 19 August 2017.
The purpose of this non-credited inbound mobility programme was to give students exposure and ample opportunity for interaction among the local and international participants based on the concept of responsiveness, appreciation, tolerance and mutual responsibility, apart from introducing UUM to the global community.
Moreover, the purpose of the programme was also to foster wider social networking among the students. Accordingly, it provided a platform for students to exchange ideas and share information concerning their learning styles, including the opportunity to experience and learn about each other’s cultural practices.
In his welcoming speech, the Dean of PPA COB, Dr. Hendrik Lamsali, said that the conference theme, "Global Citizenship", was certainly relevant and timely as students were now expected to play their role as global citizens.
He added that the programme was an inaugural collaboration among UUM, CMU, and USM and that he hoped it was the beginning of many more student seminars to come, with the involvement of more universities in the future editions of the UCUC.
Among the activities organised throughout the UCUC were oral and poster presentations, campus explorations, canoeing, cycling, golfing, and go-karting.
The participants were also taken on a visit to Alor Setar City; a Ganoderma-based health products manufacturing plant owned by DXN Marketing SDN.BHD; and the island of Penang, which included a visit to the USM campus and the city of Georgetown.
