The 1Malaysia Electric Bicycle (SER1M) To Help In Generating Income For The University

UUM ONLINE: The provision of the 1Malaysia electric bicycles (SER1M) to the various Centres of Authority (PTJ) and Student Residences (Inasis) is expected to greatly help generate more income for the university.

The Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, said that the electric bicycles, or Sikal Elektrik Rakyat 1Malaysia (SER1M), could be used to help the university generate wealth through their sale, or rental, to students at a set price, or schedule of rental rates, respectively.

The Vice-Chancellor said that, at the moment of speaking, UUM had in its possession 200 electric bikes which had been presented by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA), and that the project was aimed at promoting 'green mobility' especially among the younger generation. He added that UUM would be receiving a consignment of 600 more electric bikes in the future.

"Every PTJ and Inasis can rent out the electric bikes at MYR4 per hour to students, MYR5 to staff and MYR6 to the general public. MYR1 could be charged for every subsequent hour.

"The use of the electric bike is suitable not only for maintaining good health, but also for promoting green practices on campus. What is more, renting out the electric bicycles to the UUM community and visitors alike will help the university generate much needed income," said the Vice-Chancellor at the SER1M Launching Ceremony at the foyer of the Chancellery Building yesterday afternoon.

The Vice-Chancellor also urged the students and staff of UUM to reduce the use of vehicles that emit carbon monoxide so as to maintain the lush greenness of the campus and stay committed to the university's agenda of remaining listed in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking.
