UUM ONLINE: Kuala Lumpur - The Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, launched the Malaysian Research and Education Network (Myren-X), a broadband service with a speed of 100 gigabytes per second, at the University of Malaya recently.
MYREN-X is a Giganet cyber network plus a computing and storage infrastructure dedicated specifically to learning and research activities.
MYREN-X is an enhanced version of MYREN, which, launched in 2005, initially linked only 12 public universities (UA). Now, with the enhanced version, the network of connections has been extended to include 150 institutions comprising 20 UA, four private universities, 31 polytechnics, 85 community colleges, five hospitals / medical faculties, and five agencies under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
MYREN-X not only enables Malaysians to access overseas education online, but also allows foreigners to access education in Malaysia, thus taking Malaysian education to the international arena.
The launching ceremony of the 100Gbps MYREN-X was attended by the Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh; UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, and senior officers of the MOHE and the UA.
