UUM ONLINE: The establishment of UUM Varsity Mall is seen as a sensible idea by the university to encourage and develop the entrepreneurship skills among the university students.
The Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism, Dato’ Seri Hamzah Zainudin said, the Varsity Mall would assist students and provide the platform for them to become successful entrepreneurs in the future.
"My sincere congratulations to UUM for advocating this excellent concept that offers the opportunity for students as well as the local community to try a hand at entrepreneurship and expand their businesses," said Dato’ Seri Hamzah at the launching ceremony of Varsity Mall, yesterday.
Meanwhile, UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said, the original building of the Varsity Mall was built more than 25 years ago and it has undergone an extensive renovation and refurbishment process.
At present, the Varsity Mall boasts 85 shop lots, out of which a total of 30 percent of the retail outlets were exclusively allocated for UUM students.
"I sincerely hope that with the rebranding of the Varsity Mall, more revenue for the university would be generated and more students will be interested to become entrepreneurs," said Prof. Dato' Seri Vice-Chancellor.
A certificate presentation ceremony to 14 Student Entrepreneurs at the Varsity Mall (UUM Entrepreneurship Development Programme) was also held at the same event.
