UUM ONLINE: 5 December - The signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and OpenLearning Global (M) Sdn. Bhd. will further enhance the online learning approach or also known as the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC).
During the MoA signing ceremony, UUM was represented by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak and OpenLearning Global (M) Sdn. Bhd. was represented by the CEO, Mr. Adam Brimo. The ceremony was held at the Visitors’ Lounge, UUM yesterday.
In a separate event, the University Teaching and Learning Center (UTLC) hosted a discourse session to demonstrate the functions of MOOC and its potential to generate revenue for the university. The session was attended by the university Top Management Team at the Senate meeting Room.
‘The evolution of the information and communication technology (ICT) in the field of education created a new dimension in teaching and learning (T&L) through the utilisation of the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) for online education and distance education,’ said Mr. Adam Brimo.
He further explained that, MOOC makes the most of the cross-border learning concept. Besides being cost effective, MOOC introduces modern learning approaches and the innovative learning methods will attract students to participate in online learning courses.
He explained that OpenLearning is based in Sydney, Australia and it has opened a branch in Kuala Lumpur to facilitate the OpenLearning operations in Malaysia.
According to Prof. Dato' Seri Vice-Chancellor, UUM is ready to work with OpenLearning to promote the publication and research activities.
Also present at the ceremony were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek Abdul Karim, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International Affairs), Prof. Dr. Yusnidah Ibrahim and the Director of UTLC, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fauziah Abdul Rahim.
