The medals were presented by Her Royal Highness Brigedier Jeneral Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Binti Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, Tunku Panglima Besar Kedah (Member of the Kedah Council of Regency), UUM Tunku Chancellor.
In her address, Tunku Chancellor conveyed her heartfelt compliments to all award recipients and she also expressed her sincere delight for the loyalty and meritorious service rendered by UUM staff for the nation, country and religion.
"I earnestly hope that this award and recognition will encourage the recipients to give their best in carrying out tasks and duties in addition to being a role model to new employees”.
Tunku Chancellor added that this award also reflects the thoughtfulness of UUM concerning the employees who have served at UUM for 25 years. These employees have contributed their ideas and energy to develop UUM since its inception 31 years ago.
PPSUUM was held since the year 2003 to acknowledge the long-service employees for their enduring commitment and loyalty to the king, country and the university.
The award criteria for PPSUUM are: the employee has no record of previous disciplinary action; must serve for at least 25 years in UUM as a permanent staff; uphold the good name of the university locally or abroad and attained 85% and above for the annual performance appraisal for three (3) consecutive years.
Earlier on, in his welcoming speech, UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Wira Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said, besides considering the factors such as the duration of service in the university and disciplinary matters, we also take into consideration the involvement of the staff that have made outstanding contributions in distinctive ways to uphold the name of university.
"The roles and involvement of each and every staff in UUM are evinced in the numerous success and achievements attained by the university in three decades including the attainment of the autonomy status, the Best Islamic Finance Qualification 2013 from the Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA), recognition from the Quality Assurance (Quality Assurance) of the ASEAN University Network (AUN), ABEST21 Accreditation and the latest is retaining the 5-Star rating from the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) for the Malaysian Government Agency Portals and Website assessment,” said Dato’ Vice-Chancellor.
Heading the list of award recipients is UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Wira Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak; followed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Abdul Razak Saleh; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek Abdul Karim and Assistant Vice-Chancellor College of Business (UUMCOB), Prof. Dr. Rushamie Zien Yusoff.
Also present at the ceremony were the Deputy Speaker of the Kedah State Legislative Assembly, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Azmi Bin Che Hussain representing Kedah Menteri Besar, UUM Pro-Chancellor, Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Dato’ Seri (Dr.) Ahmad Fairuz Dato’ Sheikh Abdul Halim; Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Paduka Abdul Rahman Ibrahim representing the University Management Committee and Bukit Kayu Hitam Assemblyman, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Hj. Ahmad Zaini Japar.
