The two-module programme, which is jointly organised by Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and Michigan State University (MSU), United States, is under the auspices of the Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB). The programme enrolment targets professional management staff and administrators in institutions of higher education and the public services sector.
The programme aims to enhance the critical thinking and problem-solving skills of the participants in the global context, as well as to help them return to work with comprehensive leadership skills that will empower them to influence changes in their organisations and, ultimately, succeed at the highest level.
Among the facilitators involved in the workshop were the Dean of the OYAGSB, Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi Ismail; Professor Emeritus Aj. Toemsakdi Krishnamra from the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand; the Director of the Executive Development Programme (EDP), OYAGSB, Dr. Marlin Marissa Malek Abdul Malek; and Wan Zurina Wan Isa of HR Consultant.
The three-day workshop also featured as guest speaker, Datin Dr. Syahira Hamidon, Senior Principal Assistant Secretary, Research Planning and Policy Coordination Division, Entrepreneurship Unit, Higher Education Sector, Ministry of Education, who gave an overview of the Higher Education landscape in Malaysia.
In addition to being an introduction to the programme, Module 1, which was conducted at UUM, also encompassed topics regarding leadership strategy, ranking and accreditation, managing generational differences, and forums that discussed issues and challenges in the Management of Higher Education. An example is the forum entitled Higher Education Management: Issues and Challenges for the Region, which was chaired by Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi Ismail and involved the participation of three panellists, namely the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek Hj Abdul Karim; Professor Emeritus Aj. Toemsakdi Krishnamra; and the Rector of Universitas Telkom Bandung, Prof. Dr. Ashari.
Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi officiated at the ceremony to mark the presentation of certificates to the participants, as well as the closing of the workshop, at the EDC-UUM.
A total of 15 participants have enrolled to take part in Module 2 of the programme, which will be conducted at MSU from 25 July to 7 August 2015. Module 2 consists of professional lectures, which will touch on a range of issues including finance, human resource, and leadership in the management and administration of higher education, and professional visits to related departments at Michigan State University.
