Heading the list of 31 recipients was the Dean of the Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB), Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi Ismail, who received his letter of appointment for the post of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation). The appointment, effective from 1 August 2015, is for a period of three years.
The letters of appointment and promotion for various positions, among which were that of Associate Professor (3), Senior Lecturer (11), and several administrative posts (14), were presented by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Wira Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak.
In addition, a total of six (6) academic staff members also received their confirmation of service as University Lecturer, Grade DS51.
Also among the recipients were Prof. Dr. Mohd Sofian Omar Fauzee, of the School of Education and Modern Languages (SEML), who has been appointed as the Director of the Sports Centre, and Mr. Mohd Zulkifli Bin Mohd Noor @ Muhammad, from the Department of Student Affairs, who has been appointed as the Director of the Security Department, effective from 1 July 2015.
Meanwhile, in his speech, the Vice-Chancellor expressed his hope that the boost of the promotions would enable the recipients to fulfil their responsibilities with complete dedication and uphold the university's good name and image.
"Congratulations! I hope that the fire of determination in you recipients will continue to burn brightly in your endeavours to assist the university achieve excellence while, at the same time, it matches the fervour of your submission and devotion to Allah in preparation for the rewards in the hereafter.
"Apart from this, I would like to inform you that UUM and the Nabawi Mosque in Madinah will be jointly establishing the Darul Quran on campus, in the near future, in the hope of benefiting not only students, but also whoever may be interested in delving deep into the knowledge of the Quran," he said.
He also expressed his hope that the tradition of holding iftar would be continued and extended to include the involvement of the members of the local communities so as to share the blessings of the holy month.
At the same function, the Vice-Chancellor also presented Ramadan contributions to two tahfiz centres, namely Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Hafsah and Madrasah Tahfiz Al-Quran Taufiqillah, with donations of MYR5,000 and MYR2,000, respectively, and token sums of money for Raya (duit raya) to orphans from the Bukit Kayu Hitam Primary School.
The ceremony, which began with the recital of verses from the Quran, ended with a Ramadan Tazkirah presented by Kedah State Islamic Affairs Officer, Sohibus Samahah Syeikh Hazizan Md Desa, before the breaking of fast and the observance of the evening (Maghrib) prayer.
Also in attendance at the ceremony were the Bukit Kayu Hitam Assemblyman, Dato' Ahmad Zaini Japar, members of the University Management Committee, and UUM officials.
