According to UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Wira Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak having well-defined direction is crucial in order to ensure the centres of authority and schools do not go astray from the agenda that has been planned by the university.
"The direction of the centres of authority and schools presented earlier will be further refined and improved so that it can be included in the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Strategic Plan for Phase 2, which will be launched in January 2016," he said.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that to realise the agenda as a research university, each centre of authority needs to possess a benchmark and learn from world renowned universities such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States and University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom and several other universities in order to achieve success in various areas namely research, production, innovation and centres of excellence.
He said this while delivering his speech at the handing over of duties ceremony of the UUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) at the EDC-UUM yesterday.
At the event, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), Prof. Dr. Abdul Razak Saleh handed over the reins to his successor, Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi Ismail. The handing over of duties ceremony was witnessed by the Vice-Chancellor and Mr. Baharudin Yaacob who represented the Registrar.
Prof. Dr. Nor Azizi succeeded Prof. Dr. Abdul Razak who completed his term of service on July 31 after serving for five (5) years. The former’s appointment came into effect on 1 August 2015 for a period of three (3) years.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor also extended his appreciation and gratitude to Prof. Dr. Abdul Razak for his outstanding work throughout his five-year tenure as UUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation).
"Without the contribution and assistance rendered by him, UUM may not be what it is today especially in terms of streamlining human resources, research and innovation, MyRa agenda (Malaysian Research Assessment) as well as quality assurance (Quality Assurance)," he said.
Also present at the ceremony were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr. Hassan Ali; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek Abdul Karim, members of the University Management Committee, department heads and UUM senior officials.
Earlier, attendees were enlightened with the presentation of UUM Roadmap and Benchmarking for Schools and UUM Centres of Authority.
