During the ceremony, 84 recipients consisting of JKM staff were awarded with the Executive Certificate in Social Work Practice (SPEC), while 25 JTKSM staff received their Executive Certificate for Career Counselling Practice (SEAKK).
UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak graciously presented certificates to fellow recipients, accompanied by JKM Director General, Dato' Zulkiply Ramli and JTKSM Director General, Dato' Mohd Jeffrey Joakim.
The Vice-Chancellor congratulated all the recipients for successfully completing the executive certificate course which resulted from various discussions and collaborative works between JKM and JTKSM.
According to him, the module which is 'tailor-made' takes into account the needs of both the department and the needs of the profession.
"On account of the expertise and experience of cooperation with JKM and JTKSM, UUM is honoured to be given the confidence and trust to handle these short courses, indirectly UUM will assist in terms of expertise and implementation of the development, improvement, management and upgrading of skills, knowledge and related applications.
"We also welcome potential staff of JKM and JTKSM to pursue higher education at UUM since there is a second channel of new student intake for those who have relevant work experience in social work and counselling in the Bachelor programme," he said.
He added that UUM has also welcomed two officials from therespective departments who are interested in pursuing studies at Masters and PhD levels in which this semester, UUM offers both Master of Social Work as well as Correctional through coursework on the main campus and at UUMKL.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed his confidence that with the cooperation, the support and commitment will continue to add value in promoting the country's higher education sector, thus helping the Government in its efforts of transforming the country.
Meanwhile, Director General of JKM, Dato' Zulkiply extended his heartiest congratulations to the staff of the department who received their SPEC Certificates at the ceremony, he also expressed his appreciation and gratitude towards UUM for collaborating with JKM to implement the programme in a bid to improve the competence level of its staff in accordance with the Social Work profession as it channels services to the community.
He also expressed his hopes that the collaborative programme which spans a period of five years will continue in the future as the programme helps the staff improve their role and functions in contributing to the department more effectively.
"This collaborative programme between JKM and UUM is a mechanism which allows employees to get training from an accredited body to become a practitioner of Social Work.
"Even though the programme spans 10 days, I hope it will encourage the JKM staff to enrol into the course and obtain good results thus achieving prosperity in the future," he said.
This cooperative programme between UUM and JKM which began in 2013 started with the participation of 33 people for the first Cohort and went up to the sixth Cohort. In total JKM has sent 183 staff.
The 1/2015 session incidentally also marked the first collaboration between JTKSM and UUM through the SEAKK programme which witnessed 25 staff receiving their certificate during the occasion.
JTKSM Director, Dato' Mohd Jeffrey said the aim of the implementing the programme is to develop competent human capital amongst the JKTSM staff towards achieving a more efficient work performance.
He said based on the vision of becoming a leading and excellent Labour Management body in the private sector, he decided to seize the opportunity and initiative to get the JTKSM staff involved with the programme in hopes of producing knowledgeable and competent members of staff.
At the event, three JKM staff namely Mr. Md Sukri Md Usop (Third Cohort), Mr. Mohd Rashwan Klawan (Fourth Cohort) and Mr. Mohd Harith Hamzah (Fifth Cohort) and a fellow JTKSM staff , Mr. Mohd Azizi Nasir were awarded the Best Student Award respectively.
