The Qurban and Aqiqah Rites Ceremony 1436H / 2015 which was held after the Aidiladha prayers took place at the UUM Islamic Centre.
In total 12 cows and six goats were contributed by members of UUM staff and their family members while the other 10 goats were contributed by UUM international students. The meat of the aqiqah and qurban animals was distributed to the needy, including staff of the Uniutama Property Sdn Bhd (UPSB), Juta Restu as well as to the surrounding community.
The slaughtering, butchering, distributing and cooking of the meat were done in a collaborative effort by members of the Muslim campus community consisting of staff and students as well as the local community.
Muslims who are mukalaf (of age and responsible for Islamic obligations) and financially sound are highly encouraged to sacrifice animals such as sheep, goats, cows or camels.
The act of sacrifice or Qurban is done for a period of four days after the Aidiladha prayers on 10 Zulhijjah up until before the sun sets on 13 Zulhijjah or also known as the Tashriq day.
Earlier, UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak joined the Muslim campus community to perform the Aidiladha prayers at the UUM Sultan Badlishah Mosque.
He also witnessed the slaughtering of the sacrificial animals and later enjoyed the delicacies especially prepared for the occasion with the Muslim campus community. .
The Vice-Chancellor in his speech earlier said that UUM is moving towards internationalization and accepting the entry of more international students.
"A while ago during the Aidiladha prayers, one could see a myriad of traditional costumes donned by students as well as their family members from the various countries abroad converging in this mosque. It is a sight which one could not imagine 5-10 years ago," he said.
He also congratulated the UUM Islamic Centre over the success of the event.
