The one-day workshop to hopefully shed light on the opportunities and strategies on the research grants procurement from the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) in a bid to produce high quality research papers that comply with the KPT and UUM requirements.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi Ismail in his welcoming speech said the workshop aims to provide exposure to especially the academic research staff to secure the KPT research funds as well as to receive useful inputs regarding 2016 research, thereby to produce high-impact research output.
"For this year and next year, we are all set to increase the number of publications in line with the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) set for each lecturer or academic research members of staff.
"In addition, the University also aims to increase the number of 'citations of publications' through publications in 'high-ranking journal'," he said.
He further reiterated that industry representatives were also invited to one of the workshop slots as panels for a forum session entitled 'Research That Matters'. The session aims to spur the benefits of high-impact research towards the industry, members of community, KPT and nation.
During the workshop, Director of the Higher Education Excellence Planning Division (BPKI), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Dr. Raha Abdul Rahim briefed the participants about the 2016 research funds opportunities offered by the KPT, followed by a knowledge-sharing and appreciation session of research philosophy by Prof. Dr. Zakaria Abas, a Research Fellow for the Centre for University-Industry Collaboration (CUIC).
Meanwhile, the afternoon saw the workshop continue with a forum on 'Research that Matters' with three panels, namely Sazali Sukardi, Vice-President of the Strategic CyberSecurity Malaysia; Abdul Wahab Abu Bakar, Vice-President of the Malaysian Employers Federation and Salihin Abang from the SALIHIN.
Also present were Director of the RIMC, Prof. Dr. Ayoib Che Ahmad and University officials.
