Organised by the Higher Education Ministry, the two-day event kicked off on the 30 January 2016 at the Darulaman Stadium.
The education fair was officially opened by the Higher Education Minister, Yang Berhormat Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh. Also present at the ceremony were the UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak as well as senior officials from public universities (UA) and Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education (DPCCE).
Among the exciting line-up for the two days are 'Soaring Upwards' programme which serves as an interaction platform between the ministry and the public,forums, exhibition as well as guidance education counselling services.
Dato' Seri Idris said this one-stop centre provided students with information, opportunities, accreditation and funding that could be used to make UPU applications easier. Moreover students could make informed decisions in choosing a programme into universities, polytechnics and ILKA TEVT.
"The programme aims at promoting courses offered by higher learning institutions as well as educating the people of the use of the system in which 90 per cent is based on academic achievement and the rest is extra-curricular and creating awareness of ways to submit applications for higher education through the online process.
"Apart from that, the 'Soaring Upwards' roadshow is as the main channel to spread information on latest government policies, in line with the National Key Result Areas (NKRA) agenda that prioritises the interests of the people'," he said.
He added that the post-Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students were urged to enrol into the vocational and technical institutes. He further reiterated that the TEVT courses were no longer deemed as a second choice among students pursuing tertiary studies as the nation moves towards a high-skill and high-income phase.
The carnival is expected to attract a huge crowd of more than 180,000 visitors who are looking for the ideal education path and it is open to the public from 9am to 6pm.
About 20 UA, DPCCE, IPTS and various government agencies related to higher education took part in the carnival.
Also present were the Higher Education Ministry secretary-general, Dato' Seri Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang; the Higher Education Department director-general, Dato' Prof. Dr. Asma Ismail and senior officials from the ministry.
