Dr Shahrul Azmi said, the TaskManager offers the simulation of task management skills that were developed based on his earlier invention, a board game called UUMVenture that has won two (2) gold medals at international exhibitions.
The TaskManager, which costs RM10,000, utilises the concept of edutainment in learning where students and participants were given the opportunity to experience a variety of situations that occur regularly in managing projects and tasks.
"TaskManager covers the teaching module, project management training and team building strategies. This product focuses more on group exercises and this is an extension of the UUMVenture project which concentrated more on the project management game."
"In the early months of 2015, we have held several training sessions using the TaskManager module in secondary schools in Perlis and also in UUM. As a result, we find that, it provides improved understanding on management skills in terms of time and human resource management through effective teamwork, “he said.
Dr Shahrul Azmi, a senior lecturer at the School of Computing (SoC) said, to further expand the use of TaskManager, a series of workshops were held for young enterpreneurs at Kuala Nerang PLKN Camp and also for lecturers at Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah Polytechnic, Kulim.
"We have identified different users of this product based on the three (3) levels of the TaskManager module, specifically the Team Building Module for college and university students, companies and also public and private organisations; the Project Management and Tasks Basic Module for secondary school students, college and university students (between15-25 years old) and the Advanced Project Management and Tasks Module for companies as well as public and private organisations.
"This innovation has been commercialised and Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah Polytechnic, Kulim was the first customer of the product," he said.
This innovative product was jointly developed with Shanizan Herman Mohd Radzi from the School of Quantitative and two Master’s students at the SoC namely Sharifah Nadera and Nurhafizah Khalif. The product has also gained recognition at the Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) 2014, Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) 2014 Expo and the International Conference and Exposition on Inventions by Institutions of Higher Learning (PECIPTA 2015).
