As of yesterday, the registration for the new academic session saw 384 female students and 168 male students registering.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek Hj Abdul Karim, who represented the Vice Chancellor said that the number includes those who come from Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, Indonesia and Thailand.
"The entire campus community always welcomes new students to UUM with open arms because they are our major contributors to the success and achievements of the University.
"UUM is also proud that it ranks in the 193 position of the best university in Asia in the QS University Ranking 2015 and targets to improve its position in the coming years," he said this at the New Student Pledge of Loyalty Ceremony for the Second Semester Student at the Telekom Malaysia Student Residential Hall last night.
The pledge was led by Mr. Amirul Husaini Jamaludin in the presence of the UUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) and UUM officials.
At the same juncture, he advised the students to uphold the good name of the university in addition to not engage in any activities deemed unbeneficial.
"Students should take every opportunity they get in the best possible way while studying here because they will realise that life at the university is the most valuable time.
It should be noted that if problems arise, problems such as financial difficulties and so on, they may liaise with the Department of Student Affairs for assistance to be provided, "he said.
Meanwhile, Ms. NurFatiha Abni Hagar, a student of the Bachelor of Accountancy programme expressed her excitement when her desire to study in UUM finally became a reality.
"Indeed I applied to further my studies in UUM in the field of Accounting due to interest. Before this I studied at the Diploma level and my seniors suggested that I continue with the Accounting programme in UUM because UUM offers the top Accounting programme.
So if I can graduate in the field of Accounting I will be very satisfied. My mother is also an alumnus of UUM, which makes me even more determined to continue my studies here," she said.
Meanwhile Chuink Mei Fern, a Bachelor of Banking student decided to enrol into UUM due to the lush green surroundings.
"I became very impressed with the green and quiet surroundings UUM has to offer as an ideal place to study. Many of my friends study here. I hope to do my best to achieve my ambition to become a banker, "said the lass who hails from Kelantan.
For Mr. Amar Murshidi Abu Bakar, an undergraduate of the Bachelor of Accounting Programme also aims to take up ACCA in UUM.
"UUM is my first choice to further my studies. In addition to the attractive surroundings, my lecturers at Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Polytechnics in Jitra also suggested that I pursue my studies in UUM in the field of Accounting as UUM is the best university to study Accounting.
And I also intend to take up ACCA while pursuing my studies here to be more professional in the field of Accounting," he said with full of hope.
