Therefore, to encourage and stimulate more qualitative research at both the national and international levels, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Tunku Puteri Intan Shafinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA) organised the 2nd UUM International Qualitative Research Conference with its apt theme, "Qualitative Research: Exploring Hidden Reality" at PARKROYAL Penang Resort, Penang.
The conference was organised specifically to promote the concept of sharing information, ideas and knowledge about current issues especially in qualitative research and also in many other fields including accounting, information technology, education, economics, psychology, law and other disciplines.
Through the presentation of the conceptual framework, methodological foundations, research findings and knowledge exchange between experts of various fields would provide valuable and constructive input towards the betterment of society.
The three-day conference which took place from 24 to 26 May attracted about 70 delegates from around the world and was officiated by UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak.
In his opening address he said, universities should be balanced in terms of learning and research.
"Academics should encourage cross-cultural and cross-collaboration between institutions in research without marginalizing friends of any institution or country. Qualitative Research fosters the most useful human capacities, namely the capacity to learn from others.
"In this case UUM has taken the initiative to move forward and take on the national agenda to be a moderator in activities that focus on research and development.
"Therefore this conference is expected to be a catalyst for the development of multidisciplinary qualitative research and to contribute to the understanding of the real problems in the industry and propose solutions in order to address them," he said.
The conference keynote address was delivered by the Founder and Managing Director of Epic Valley Holdings Sdn. Bhd. cum Adjunct professor of the University, Tan Sri F'ng Ah Seng in the presence of the Deputy Dean (Research, Graduate & Networks) Graduate School of Business, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Associate Professor Dr. Siti Nabiha Abdul Khalid as well as fellow participants.
Also present were Assistant Vice-Chancellor (UUM COB) Prof. Dr. Rushami Zien Yusoff and Dean of UUM TISSA, Prof Dr Kamil Md Idris.
