The new student pledge recital was led by Wan Umair Shahir Wan Azman. All the new students took the oath and made the pledge to themselves in the presence of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof Dr Noor Azizi Ismail, representing the Vice-Chancellor; Deputy Registrar, Tuan Haji Baharuddin Yaacob, representing UUM Registrar and Director of Centre for Foundation Studies in Management, Prof Dr. Abdul Razak Yaakub.
Prof Dr Noor Azizi, in his speech, encouraged the students to practice using the English language and improve their competency in the language.
"I fervently hope that students will make the most of this opportunity to improve their academic performance and develop their soft skills in UUM because one of the many challenges facing by graduates in seeking employment these days is their proficiency in using the English language," he said.
"I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the students who are present here for being the third cohort students of the foundation studies programme in preparation to enrol into various bachelor programmes offered by UUM.
"Out of the 2,000 applicants who submitted their applications, only 188 applicants were selected into the Foundation Studies programme," he said.
He also advised the students to be independent and good at managing themselves during their study here and abide by the rules and regulations set by the university.
Also present at the event were Deputy Director (Academic) of Centre for Foundation Studies in Management, Assoc Prof Dr Munif Zarirruddin Fikri Nordin; Deputy Director (Student Development) of Centre for Foundation Studies in Management, Assoc Prof Md Zahir Mat Cha and Principal of the Tenaga Nasional Berhad Student Residential Hall (DPP), Mohd Idzwan Yacob.
Meanwhile, Mohd Haikal Rashydan Zulkifli expressed his delight as it has always been his wish to study in UUM.
"I represent all students of the 2016/2017 academic session of the foundation studies in Management, would like to express my sincere thanks to the Vice-Chancellor and the university management to pave way for us to succeed in the future," he said.
The third cohort students would pursue the foundation studies in Management for a year before they qualify for the various degree programmes offered by the university.
