The event, jointly organised by the School of Applied Psychology, Policy and Social Work (SAPSP), Executive Education & Professional Development (EEPD) Awang Had Salleh Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (AHSGS) and JKM was attended by a total of 39 JKM officials nationwide.
The second series of the course began with a session entitled 'Leadership Fundamentals for Managers' conducted by UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak.
In his presentation, he used a case study at the Harvard Business School - Rob Parson, a star producer in Morgan Stanley's Capital Markets division - a leading investment bank in the United States.
He had been recruited from a competitor the prior year and had generated substantial revenues since joining the firm. Unfortunately, Parson's reviews from the 360-degree performance evaluation process revealed that he was having difficulty adapting to the firm's culture. His manager, Paul Nasr, faces the difficult decision of whether to promote Parson to managing director. Nasr must also complete Parson's performance evaluation summary and conduct Parson's performance review.
Based on the real situation to decision making that might be faced by other leaders, Prof Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa threw a few questions to the participants whether Rob Parson should be promoted or otherwise.
Through the discussion based on the real case, the participants managed to identify the source of the problems, recognise the decision-makers and their agenda as well as to be more sensitive to the environmental conditions that contribute to the decisions made in the case.
This course aims at providing new input for the JKM members of staff in facing challenges as a leader.
The six-day event which began yesterday is held at the EDC Hotel & Residence.
