The eEntrepreneur course is an initiative of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation especially aimed at training young entrepreneurs as well as those with household earnings of the lowest 40 percent (B40) to generate revenue through online marketing.
UECSB Chief Executive Officer, Dr Fairol Halim said the participants of the MDEC Training of Trainers (TOT) Workshop comprised of staff from various institutions of higher learning including UUM, would be coached to become coaches of eEntrepreneurs.
According to him, during the two-day workshop, participants were given an overview of basics in marketing and use of social media like Facebook (FB) and Instagram, and then they would be commissioned as coaches for eEntrepreneurs.
"This is in line with MDEC’s aspiration that is to produce a total of 5,000 entrepreneurs from Kedah and Perlis in particular through this entrepreneurial programme.
"At the end of the TOT workshop, we will continue to conduct the course or class for these internet entrepreneurs every week whereby classes will be held three times a week, on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for the next three months in UUM," he said.
Dr Fairol said the entrepreneurial workshop was free and believed it to be a liaison to the businesses carried out by digital entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile, fellow participant, Mdm. Akma Che Ishak from Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah Polytechnics (TSBP) said the eEntrepreneur workshop would not only benefit the online traders but as an interested individual she too gained knowledge in terms of learning about real marketing techniques.
She also reiterated that she could also learn techniques to sell products more effectively with the help of social networking sites such as Facebook and Instagram, as lately many buyers prefer to buy goods on-line which could save them time and energy.
"I find that this workshop has not only helped me gain knowledge, with the knowledge I have gained it can be used effectively to provide guidance to other entrepreneurs under the auspices of the eEntrepreneur programme," she said.
