All the officers involved received their hampers which were presented by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak at the Foyer of the Chancellery.
The Vice-Chancellor said in his speech that, in conjunction with Aidilfitri, most of the campus community would be away celebrating 1 Syawal which was just around the corner.
"Hence, with the presence of staff who will be on duty during Aidilfitri this year, it is hoped that they will be able to carry out their duties with utmost dedication and sincerity and in fact inclined to do so even though they are unable to return to their respective hometowns.
"I hope they can maintain safety in campus, now that UUM is getting a lot of attention from the local people and there would certainly be some who would take advantage of this holiday to visit the campus," he said.
He further reiterated that, with the presence of many visitors, hopefully the Security Department in particular would continue to monitor and look out for those who visit the campus with the intentions of undertaking activities which they were not supposed to do.
He further added that the inspection of vehicles, coming in and out of the campus should also be intensified in order to avoid any untoward incidences from occurring and at the same time be responsible in taking care of the various assets available on campus.
In addition, he said, although many of the campus community had gone back to their respective hometowns, the international students were still staying on campus and not gone on vacation, so he expressed hope that the existing staff would help these students when needed.
Meanwhile, the Security Officer, Mr. Mohd Hanief Omar expressed his gratitude to the university for honouring staff who would be on duty during Aidilfitri this year.
He said this year would be his first year celebrating Aidilfitri alone away from his family who were residing in Kelantan not only because of the demands of work but also the need for him to attend a course throughout the month of Syawal.
"Every year I spend Aidilfitri with my family while enjoying meals like beef rendang prepared by my mother, but this year it is different because I will be alone and without the company of my family members.
"However, to make the situation bearable for me, I have asked my mother to send my favourite beef rendang so that I can enjoy it on the morning of Syawal despite being far apart from my loved ones," he said.
Meanwhile, Security Guard, Mdm. Norhazirah Bahadon said, this year would also be her first year celebrating Aidilfitri in UUM because duty called.
She also added that, although her hometown was just a stone’s throw, but the mood was very different because every morning she would celebrate Aidilfitri with family members donned in new clothes.
"This is my first experience but I'm still happy to be able to celebrate Aidilfitri with my colleagues while being on the watch upholding and protecting the security and safety of the university," he said.
Also present at the ceremony were the Registrar, Mr. Mohamad Akhir Yusuf; Director of the Chancellery, Mr. Ahmad Rasidi Abdullah and UUM officials.
