During the meeting, UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak expanded international cooperation by signing Letters of Intent with the five ASEAN universities namely De La Salle University, Philippines; Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), Philippines; Bandung Institute of Technology ( ITB), Indonesia; Royal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), Vietnam.
He also had the opportunity to brief fellow attendees on UUM’s potential of becoming the best location for future ASEAN leadership programmes. Prof Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak also managed to set up and lead a new working group consisting of Dr. Jose M. Cruz, President of ADMU; Assoc. Prof Dr Duong Anh Duc, President of VNU-HCM; Assoc. Prof. Edwan Kadena, Deputy President of the ITB and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pomthong Malakul of Chulalongkorn University.
The new working group was established to implement the master plan and mechanisms aimed at expanding AUN membership amongst ASEAN universities.
In addition, the Vice-Chancellor also met and held talks with the Vice-Chancellor of University of Brunei Darulsalam, the AUN Executive Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nantana Gajaseni and Presidents of the various universities namely the Mahidol University, Chulalongkorn University and Ateneo De Manila University.
A total of 30 representatives from the various AUN member universities comprising of Presidents, Vice-Chancellors and Rectors attended the meeting. During the meeting, proposals put forth by the 7th. AUN Rector were updated and the latest AUN charter was established.
Accompanying the Vice-Chancellor during the meeting were Director of the Centre for International Affairs & Cooperation (CIAC), Dr Mohamad Farizal Rajemi and Director of the Student Affairs Department, Dr Mohd Dino Khairri Shariffuddin.
