Speaking at the opening ceremony of i-COME'16 at Istana Hotel, the Deputy Secretary-General (Operations) of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Dr. Mohd Ali Mohamad Nor, who represented the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Dato' Seri Dr. Salleh Said Keruak stated that, this conference brings together the local and international academics, researchers and industry players. i-COME’16 also offered an invaluable channel for the participants to exchange ideas and engage them to explore contemporary issues concerning a wide range of academic disciplines and perspectives.
The conference theme, 'Exploring Communication: Beyond Nation Cultural Adaption, Images and Identity’ focuses on the implications of these elements and the extensive roles of communication in disseminating information.
A total of 153 participants from 21 countries including Thailand, Indonesia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Malaysia attended the three-day conference which commenced on 18 September 2016.
i-COME is a biennial international conference hosted by the School of Multimedia Technology and Communication (SMMTC) and the International Communication Association (ICA).
Also present at the opening ceremony were UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak; the President of ICA, Prof. Dr. Ang Peng Hwa; Dean of SMMTC, Dr. Norsiah Abdul Hamid and the Executive Director of i-COME'16, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hassan Abu Bakar.
