Malaysia Research Assessment Instrument (MyRA) Assists In Upgrading Data System


UUM ONLINE: "The results of the Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA) audit exercise for year 2014 are expected to help the university to improve on the verified and audited data according to the established criteria measurement," Dato' Prof. Emeritus Dr. Muhammad Yahaya, Chairman of the MyRA Audit Panel said this at the closing ceremony of MyRA audit exercise at the Senate Meeting Room, recently.

He also expressed his gratitude to all UUM officers and staff involved who gave their strong commitments to ensure the success of this audit exercise.

He added that the results of the two-day evaluation viewed UUM emerged strong in terms of the number of its postgraduates, especially the international students and the number of research grants received also viewed as a good indicator to UUM.

"Nevertheless, the panel recommended some improvements to be made especially on publication per staff is needed to be increased (0.25 per staff) and the database system used also need to be integrated well," he said.

He further said that the data which has been confirmed by the MyRA auditors will be reported to the Ministry of Education (MoE) for the purpose of gaining recognition for achievements made in research.

A total of nine components were evaluated by MyRA namely the general information about UUM; the quantity and quality of researchers; the quantity and quality of research; the quantity and quality of postgraduates; innovation; professional services; network and connectivity as well as support and facilities.

All the nine components were evaluated by four other panels. They were Dato' Prof. Dr. Rosli Abu Bakar, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Mat Deris, Prof. Dr. Md. Razali Ayob and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shahir Shamsir Omar.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Abdul Razak Saleh; Director of Research and Innovation Management Centre (RIMC), Prof. Dr. Kalsom Kayat and university senior officials.
