UUM ONLINE: East Lansing, Michigan – A total of 15 participants of the Global Executive Workshop for Higher Education Management & Administration enrolled in Module 2 of the programme on 27 July 2015.
In the first week, participants went through the orientation session and attended a special briefing on Michigan State University (MSU). They were also taken on a campus tour, followed by a series of lectures and visits to various departments at MSU.
Interactive lectures were delivered by MSU experts on various topics including "Programme Planning and Evaluation", "Educational Reform and Policy" and "Finance and Funding" by Prof. John Dirkx and Prof. Roger Baldwin from the Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education programme, Department of Educational Administration; "Transforming Human Resources" by Mr. Todd Bradley, an Organisational Development & Talent Management Specialist; "Managing Non-traditional Learning" by the Assistant Director of Learning Design & Technology, Mr. Ryan Yang; "IT Services and Organisational & Leadership Development" by Ms. Deborah DeZure, Assistant Provost for Faculty and Organisational Development.
"The discussions and group presentations have not only provided us with the opportunity to develop important skills and confidence, but also enable us to understand and further consider the issues and challenges in higher education and to propose effective measures on how to address certain issues," said Sayed Muhammad Arif Sayed Yahya, a Senior Assistant Bursar from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). He is part of the first batch of participants that have undergone Module 1 of the programme, held at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) from 8 to 11 June 2015.
Participants were taken on a study tour to the International Office, the Registrar Department, the Office of Planning and Budget, Student Affairs Department and the Library. Participants were also exposed to the practical application of various strategies and initiatives, including the use of technology in teaching and learning as well as administrative services.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Kiwon Kang, the Academic Advisor and Coordinator of the programme, the topics covered in the programme were designed to facilitate the participants’ understanding of the issues, challenges, efficacy and the procedures that are crucial in determining the best practices in management and administration.
This executive programme is jointly organised by the Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) and MSU targeting the professional management staff as well as administrators in higher education institutions and the public sector. The programme aims to promote and develop critical thinking ability and problem solving skills of the participants.
