UUM ONLINE: Pure joy and gratitude are clearly evinced in the eyes of the visitors at UUM Free Bazaar event, held in conjunction with Discover UUM 2016 at the Islamic Centre recently.
Islamic Affairs Officer, Ms. Siti Khairiah Parlan said, the overwhelming response during the first free bazaar event in March has prompted the Islamic Centre to host this event for the second time. This has indirectly fostered the true spirit of giving and sharing among the campus community.
“UUM Islamic Centre took the initiative to collect donations from the public and contribute them to those in need.
A graphic designer, Mr. Azizi Arif described the bazaar as a platform for staff and the surrounding community to extend a helping hand to those in need, especially in times of economic uncertainty and rising cost of living.
“This free bazar event allows us to give back to the community and share with them things that they need. The staff can also use this opportunity to meet and socialise with the community in the Sintok area.
Mr. Azizi has decided to contribute some children clothing for the free bazaar. He added that the bazaar is certainly well-organised and visitors were presented with the opportunity to choose any items including food and clothing articles. An Indonesian student also contributed some food to the visitors at the bazaar.
A staff of Uniutama Property Sdn Bhd (UPSB), Ms. Norain Isa, 50, expressed her satisfaction that the bazaar has certainly made a significant contribution to those in need.
“The bazar started at 10 am and a variety of items including grocery items, toys, clothing, shoes, tableware, food and drinks were offered to the public at the free bazaar.
"I was definitely impressed by the concern shown by the campus community and I hope that the impressive efforts by UUM Islamic Center will be continued in the future," she added.
A student of the Bachelor of Quranic Studies with Multimedia from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Awatif Husna Abdul Sukor, 23, a practicum student at the Islamic Center is certainly very eager to extend her helping hand in organising and ensuring the success of the charity bazaar.
She added that the preparation started a few weeks ago by selecting used items that are still in good condition for the bazaar.
"I'm glad to see the smile on their faces when they get to choose the free clothing items, shoes and various goods at the bazaar,” she said.
