UUM ONLINE: Kuala Lumpur - Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) continues to recognise the talent and the work of artists at the Asian Youth Indie Film Festival 2016 (AYIFF'16) which is set to take place from 5 to 7 October in UUM.
The second of its kind, AYIFF 2016 is jointly organised by the School of Management of Creative Industry and Performing Arts (SCIMPA) and the School of Multimedia, Communication and Technology (SMMTC).
UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato 'Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said, AYIFF plays an important role in highlighting the creative works of Indie artists who are mostly made up of young people.
According to him, the festival plays tribute to the works of fellow students and Indie artists whose creative expressions are made through film and animation. The festival also becomes a venue to discover and scout for new talents amongst youths.
"AYIFF is also perhaps the only platform that recognises players of Indie arts in Asia.
"It provides students, lecturers and creative industry practitioners with the practical opportunity to learn to manage the event as well as to give unduly recognition to the new movie makers in Asian countries," he said at a press conference at Hotel Seri Pacific yesterday morning.
Among the Creative Industry practitioners who will attend AYIFF 2016 are Tan Sri Johan Jaafar, Chairman of the Jury; Visual effects artists, Mr. Azim Hulaimi; Lyricists, Madam Habsah Hassan; Film Director Mr. Mamat Khalid and many others.
The festival will be divided into four major programmes, namely competitions and Indie Film Awards, creative workshops, Creative Industries Forum and Dialogue Session (mini-seminar).
A total of nine (9) awards will be contested namely Best Narrative Film, Best Documentary Film, Best Animation Film, Best Music Video, Best Public Service Announcement, Special Jury Award, Promising Young Minds and Special Award (award for non-Asian countries).
