“Sadao Bike Ride To Kedah 2017” Tightens Ties That Bind Two Neighbouring Nations

UUM ONLINE: A total of 1,700 participants jazzed-up the Thailand-Malaysia Relationship Sports Tourism Programme: Sadao Bike Ride to Kedah 2017, held in conjunction with the commemoration of the 60 years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Thailand and the celebration of the 33rd anniversary of Universiti Utara Malaysia’s (UUM) Foundation Day.

The two-day programme (18 to19 February) was flagged-off with 1,300 participants from Thailand putting their pedal prowess to the test in the goodwill cycling expedition, which stretched from the Sadao District Office, Thailand, to the UUM campus in the green forest of Sintok, Kedah.

The cyclists from Thailand, who reached UUM at 10:15 am, were subsequently joined by 400 participants from Malaysia. The whole group, then, took part in several activities, including a tour of the campus grounds. Later on in the day, the cyclists from both countries embarked on the second leg of the cycling expedition i.e. the journey back to Sadao, Thailand.

On their arrival at UUM, the Thai participants were jointly welcomed by the Bukit Kayu Hitam Assemblyman, Dato' Ahmad Zaini Japar, the Mayor of Sadao, Sumet Sasuthorn, and the Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak.

At the same event, a total of 30 Malaysians of Thai descent received a donation of household provisions from the Mayor of Sadao, Sumet Sasuthorn.

The distinguished guests were then taken on a tour of the campus, including a visit to the three siblings tree in the Sintok Forest.

Also present at the event were the Malaysian Consulate General in Songkhla, Thailand, Mohd Afandi Abu Bakar; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek Abdul Karim; the Kubang Pasu District Officer, Tuan Haji Fisol Md Noh, and senior officials of UUM.
