UUM ONLINE: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), through the Disaster Management Institute (DMI), School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML), hosted the “5th Asian Cooperative Programme (ACP) Convention on Comparative Research in Safety & Disaster Management” with the collaboration of the Asian Cooperative Programme (ACP) and Kansai University of International Studies (KUIS), Japan. The Convention ran from 20 till 28 February 2017.
The international convention was organised following a meeting between the representatives of UUM and the President of KUIS.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), UUM, Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi Ismail, said that the 5th ACP Convention was an off-campus programme, which was offered to international students who were pursuing their bachelor’s degrees. The convention, he said, was primarily focused on issues pertaining to safety and disaster management.
"I firmly believe that this convention will serve as the best platform for the participants to share their knowledge and experience in matters related to safety and disaster management," said Prof. Azizi, when delivering the welcoming speech on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, on the occasion of the ACP Consortium Meeting at EDC Hotels & Resorts yesterday.
The meeting, chaired by the ACP Chairman-cum-President of KUIS, Prof. Atsushi Hamana, was part of the 5th ACP Convention programme.
The programme also included a three-day visit to the areas affected by the floods in Manek Urai, Kelantan, and an inspection of a three-storey primary school, and interviews with the flood victims.
The programme received the support of the Centre for International Affairs and Cooperation (CIAC), the Office of Student Development and Alumni Relations, COLGIS, and the Office of Student Development and Alumni Relations, CAS.
