UUM ONLINE: Kuala Lumpur - In a bid to boost revenue through the hotel business, Uniutama Property Sdn Bhd (UPSB), a subsidiary of UUM’s business arm, acquired the Puteri Park Hotel with the signing of the Share Purchase Agreement at UUMKL, recently.
The agreement was signed by the Chairman of the UMHSB Board of Directors, Dato' Megat Fairouz Junaidi Megat Junid, with the Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, representing the UMHSB Board of Directors, and Puteri Park Hotel owner-cum-Director of Global Residence Sdn Bhd, Dato' Looh Chai Boon.
Puteri Park Hotel, which began operations in 2006, houses 247 guest rooms, a grand ballroom, eight seminar halls, a mini gym, 140 parking bays, two F & B outlets and two open kitchens.
With the purchase of the said property, the income of the subsidiary company can be expected to increase markedly given the great preference shown by government departments to organise seminars and utilise the facilities at the hotel owned by UUM, namely the EDC Hotels & Resorts, which also offers vacation packages and attractive accommodation deals to over three thousand members of the UUM staff.
Apart from this, to further promote the hotel acquired by UPSB, the management will use Puteri Park Hotel’s existing network of travel agencies, which involves over 30 travel agencies around Asia and Southeast Asia, to market not only Puteri Park Hotel, but also the hospitality products of UPSB to potential clients and tourist groups from China, Indonesia, Thailand and other countries in the region.
The signing of the Share Purchase Agreement was witnessed by the Chair of the University Board of Directors, Tan Sri Siti Sa'diah Sheikh Bakir, members of the University Board of Directors, senior officials of UUM and its subsidiary companies, and those of Global Residence Sdn. Bhd.
