UUM ONLINE: Kuala Lumpur – To ensure that its Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme becomes more competitive and remains relevant to the needs of the market, the Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYASGB), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), a professional accreditation institution for management based in the United Kingdom (UK).
The MoA was signed by the Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, and the Higher Education Relationship Manager of the CMI, Mr. Brian Wilkinson, at the Intercontinental Hotel, yesterday.
The Vice-Chancellor said that the purpose of the collaboration was to give the MBA programme added value by way of offering dual accreditation or certification, in line with the efforts of OYAGSB to achieve its vision of becoming the Eminent Graduate Business School.
"A student who obtains the CMI certificate will be recognised as a Chartered Manager (CMgr), which is the ultimate status that can be achieved in continuous professional development (CPD)," he said.
The CMI, founded in 1947, has a membership of over 80,000. The main objective of the CMI is to foster management development. Apart from this, it also actively engages with government agencies in the UK in matters pertaining to the formulation of policies on management and business issues.
Meanwhile, Mr. Brian Wilkinson said that the collaboration between the CMI and UUM will distinguish the university as the CMI’s first global partner from among the public universities in Malaysia.
"The Chartered Manager status, included in the MBA programme, will differentiate the OYAGSB MBA programme from other MBA programmes,” he said. This status will be awarded to students after they complete the 5 courses specified by the CMI.
Also present at the signing ceremony were the Dean of OYAGSB, Prof. Zeljko Sevic, and senior UUM officials.
