UUM ONLINE: The Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, chaired a meeting between the Malaysian Examinations Council (MEC) and State Education Directors at EDC Hotels and Resorts, recently.
The inaugural meeting was attended by various State Education Directors and officials from both the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ministry of Higher Education, to discuss issues related to Form 6 and the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) examination.
The Vice-Chancellor, who is also the Chairman of the MEC, said that the meeting was the first of its kind to be held since the inception of the MEC in 1980.
"The STPM examination has undergone quite a few changes as regards its standard and examination methods. Hence, there are several pertinent aspects on which the MEC needs to provide clarification directly to the State Education Directors so as to keep them abreast of the latest information on matters related to Form 6 and the STPM examination. This is to enable them to take the necessary steps in drawing up an appropriate plan of action to ensure that the Form 6 teaching-learning process and the STPM examination are conducted smoothly in schools," he said.
Among the issues brought up by the MEC in the meeting were the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) and the possibility of devising and implementing online trial versions of it, which could be taken by students in preparation to taking the actual test to gain admission to university.
Also present at the meeting were the Chief Executive of the MEC, Mr. Mohd Fauzi Mohd Kassim; Deputy Secretary, Finance Division, MoE Malaysia, Mr. Norazman Abdul Rahman; Director of Student Admissions, UPU, Ms Mazula Sabudin; Deputy Director of Examinations (Operations), Malaysian Examinations Board, Hajah Johara Abdul Wahab; Chief Assistant Director, Sixth Form Academic Management Sector, Dr Rodiah Idris; Heads of the Assessment and Examinations Sectors of the State Education Departments of all the states throughout Malaysia, and senior officials of the MEC, MoE, State Education Department, and UUM.
