The IEIJS Furnishes Platform For Discussion on Conflict in Arab Countries

UUM ONLINE: Syria and Iraq are Burning: The Untold Story recounted a very terrifying and heartbreaking tale of conflict in the modern world of today, which has caused the loss of thousands of lives and forcefully displaced hundreds of thousands more into the tenuous existence of refugees, fraught with destitution and misery.

This exclusive exposé was shared by Prof. Dr. Abd al-Fattah El-Awaisi, a Distinguished Professor (Visiting) at UUM, in a Premier Lecture organised by the Institute of Excellence for Islamicjerusalem Studies (IEIJS), at the Convention Centre, recently.

Prof. Dr. Abd al-Fattah El-Awaisi is a Professor of International Relations at the Istanbul Zaim University, Turkey, and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, United Kingdom. He is a British citizen of Palestinian origin and has been totally devoted to acquiring and sharing knowledge and being actively involved in research for the past 30 years at leading universities in the United Kingdom, Turkey, Syria, and Yemen.

He has received a variety of prestigious awards and recognitions among which are the Stirling Council Provost’s Civic Award in 1999; the Al-Maqdisi Award 2005; An Early Day Motion at the House of Commons; Motion at the Scottish Parliament; the Special Award for Innovation in 2007, and the Pioneer Award for History Making in 2007.

Meanwhile, the Director of the IEIJS, Dr. Aminurraasyid Yatiban, said that the event was part of a larger programme organised by the IEIJS in conjunction with Prof. Dr. Abd al-Fattah El-Awaisi’s weeklong visit to Malaysia.

"The event, which saw the participation of academics, human rights activists, university staff, and students, both local and international, delved into an array of significant topics that were consistent with the deep concern of the Malaysian public and the earnest determination of the Malaysian government to play a positive role in this matter," said Dr. Aminurraasyid, who acted as the moderator during this lecture.
