UUM ONLINE: Putrajaya, 18 May 2017 – A video portraying a single father instilling, in his young son, the habit of saving money for the benefit of his future, was hailed as the second place winner in the Multimedia Video Competition (Mulvec) 2017. The video was the creative expression of a small group of students from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
The success of the team, which was represented by Muhammad Husaini Mat Khair, Ahmad Nurhelmy Adam, and Muhammad Syafiq Muhammad Norhisham, all aged 20 years old, entitled them to a cash prize of MYR5,000, which was presented by the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, at the Mulvec Prize Presentation Ceremony 2017 held at the Ministry Higher Education (MoHE) last night.
"With MYR150 as capital and a compact camera, we did the filming for two days at a location in Lumut, Perak, with the collaboration of other partners. We are, indeed, very thankful for having come in second in the competition despite the participation of a whole host of far more adept video filmmakers. This is also our first attempt at such a competition at the national level," said the leader of the team, Muhammad Husaini Mat Khair.
He added that his team’s video depicted the story of a single father who inculcated the habit, in his young son, of saving money from a young age for the sake of a better future.
Mulvec, launched on 26 November 2016, is an initiative by the MoHE, in collaboration with the New Utusan Media Unit. The competition is divided into three series and is open to students from private and public institutions of higher learning, including Polytechnics and Community Colleges.

A total of five themes have been set for each series and they revolve around the repayment of the PTPTN loan, APEL, CEO @ Faculty, BR1M, and SSPN-i. The tenor of each entry is required to be in keeping with the assigned theme.
