UUM ONLINE: 18 July - The joy and merriment of the Aidilfitri Fellowship Gathering, which has become an annual university event, reflected the glory of UUM’s milestone achievements attained throughout its 33-year existence.
The celebratory gathering was enlivened by the presence of the Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato' Seri Mohd Johari Baharum (who is also the Kubang Pasu Member of Parliament) and the Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, both of whom were accompanied by their respective spouses at the foyer of the Sultanah Bahiyah Library, yesterday.
Speaking at the gathering, Dato' Seri Mohd Johari said that the event not only offered the international staff and students valuable exposure to, and experience of, the culture and hospitality of the people in the country, but was also consistent with the glory born of UUM's string of impressive successes, including the most recent coup of securing a place on the QS World University Ranking (QSWUR) Top 50 Under 50 list.
Dato' Seri Mohd Johari said that he had witnessed the various achievements of the university and that he was now immensely proud of UUM's accomplishments, which had particularly transformed the landscape of Changlun and indirectly contributed a great deal to the development of Kedah.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor said that the gathering, which had become an annual university tradition, served to reaffirm and tighten fraternal bonds and afford the members of the campus community, who were about 3,000 in number, the space and opportunity to meet, greet, and reconnect with one another.
"The UUM community should be thankful for the university’s attainments and continue to work resolutely towards realising UUM's aspiration of becoming the Eminent Management University in the region and the world by gaining a place among the top 200 universities in the World, top 50 in Asia, top 10 in Southeast Asia, and top 5 in Malaysia, with the OYA Graduate School of Business perched firmly among the top 100 Business Schools in the World,” said the Vice-Chancellor.
Also present at the gathering were the Bukit Kayu Hitam Assemblyman, Dato' Ahmad Zaini Japar; Chairperson of the University Board of Directors (LPU), Tan Sri Siti Sa'diah Sheikh Bakir; members of the LPU and the University Management Committee, and senior UUM officers.
