UUM ONLINE: A total of 16 cultural performers, comprising students, will represent Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in the Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand-Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Varsity Carnival, which will be held in Medan, Indonesia, from 5 till 10 August 2017.
The carnival, which brings together the diverse cultural arts and sports activities from these three countries, was first introduced in 1995 by UUM as part of its initiative to ensure rapid progress in economic, academic, and cultural development, among others.
The carnival offers students not only an opportunity to experience a greater awareness of their national traditions, but also an avenue to strengthen unity and integration amongst themselves.
Apart from this, it is also an effort undertaken by the university to foster closer diplomatic ties among the three countries.
Among the universities which will be representing Thailand in the carnival are the Prince of Songkhla University (PSU), Thaksin Universiti (TU), Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV), and Walailak University (WU). Those representing Indonesia will be Universiti Sumatera Utara (USU), Universiti Negeri Medan (UNIMED), and Institut Technologi Medan (ITM). Malaysia will be represented by UUM, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), the Arau branch of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UNIMAP).
