UUM ONLINE: Melaka – The Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, delivered a keynote address entitled "Ethnic Politics and the Challenges of Security Issues in Malaysia", at the Melaka International Conference on Social Sciences 2017 (MELICOSS 2017), which was held from 29 to 30 July.
The international conference was jointly organised by the University College of Islam Melaka (KUIM) and the National Council of Professors (MPN), in collaboration with the Malay and Islamic World (DMDI).
MELICOSS 2017 was attended by over 200 local and international participants comprising members of academia and students from institutions of higher education.
MELICOSS 2017 commenced with a keynote address delivered by Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak on issues related to the political history of the world, consensus democracy, the need for purposive depoliticization, which focuses on ridding politics of issues related to ethnicity, race and religion, the formation and consolidation of Bangsa Malaysia or a united Malaysian nation, current issues and security challenges in Malaysia, and so forth.
The opening ceremony of MELICOSS 2017 was officiated by Tan Sri Datuk Seri Dr. Abu Seman Haji Yusop, the Pro-Chancellor of KUIM.
The two-day conference was held at Holiday Inn, Melaka. Also present at the conference were Prof. Datuk Dr. Hj. Mohd Taib Haji Dora, the Vice-Chancellor of KUIM, and senior officials of KUIM.
