UUM ONLINE: Selangor – As a step to further expand and strengthen the scope of cooperation between Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and UMW Grantt International Sdn. Bhd., a delegation from UUM, comprising, in the main, 30 academic staff members from the School of International Studies (SoIS), recently went on an industrial visit to the said company, which is located in Shah Alam.
The visit was led by the Chairperson of the UUM Board of Directors, Tan Sri Siti Sa'diah Sheikh Bakir, who was accompanied by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, the Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UUM COLGIS, Prof. Dr. Bashawir Hj Abdul Ghani, and the Chief Librarian of the Sultanah Bahiyah Library, Mr. Salleh Hudin Mustaffa. The visit was a follow up on the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed at UUM, back in April.
Tan Sri Siti Sa'diah said that the reciprocal visit was made to maintain continuity in the strategic partnership that had been forged between UUM and UMW GRANTT, which was aimed at opening up more opportunities for cooperation, especially in terms of the involvement of UUM students and staff as well as the personnel at UMW GRANTT.
"The collaboration established between UUM and UMW GRANTT will, hopefully, open the mind of the people to the fact that the academic world and industry need to work together in the preparation and strengthening of institutions of higher learning so that the youth of the nation can build and hone their work based skills and create networks and linkages with industry in a realistic manner at the pre-career stage," she said.
In addition to holding talks with UMW on expanding the area of cooperation, the delegation also visited the UMW gallery, which showcased the company’s corporate heritage and history and the progress and growth of the UMW Group since its beginning in 1917 till the present.
The UUM delegation was also taken on a tour of the Lubetech Sdn. Bhd. factory, a subsidiary of UMW Auto Parts Sdn. Bhd., which manufactures, packs and distributes Pennzoil lubricant products to the passenger car market and the government sector.
The UUM delegation was accompanied throughout the visit by the President of the Manufacturing and Engineering Division, UMW Corporation Sdn. Bhd., Mr. Megat Shahrul Azmir, and members of the staff at UMW Grantt.
