UUM ONLINE: Putrajaya - The Minister of Higher Education, Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh, congratulated UUM on its achievements attained in the period from June till September 2017, at the Post-Cabinet Meeting of the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), last Friday.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, gave a briefing on UUM's achievements, which also included UUM's commendable debut in the QS World University Rankings Top 50 Under 50 where UUM was placed in the world's top 101-150 group of universities, was ranked the 44th best in Asia, the 9th best in Southeast Asia, and the 6th best in Malaysia.
He also highlighted UUM's success in being listed at position 200+ in the first edition of the Times Higher Education Asia-Pacific University Rankings 2017.
The Vice-Chancellor also made mention of OYAGSB's earnest efforts aimed at obtaining the EQUIS accreditation, the attainment of which, together with the AACSB and AMBA accreditation, already in hand, would triumphantly conclude UUM’s pursuit of the Triple Crown agenda. Currently, the attainment of the Double Crown accreditation (AACSB and AMBA) has put UUM on par with the University of Malaya (UM).
Among the other accomplishments attained by UUM through OYAGSB were the ABEST21 accreditation and the distinction of being the only graduate business school with Triple ISO Certification, namely, SR10, ISO14001: 2015, and ISO9001: 2015.
The Vice-Chancellor also shared UUM’s achievements involving its membership in international bodies such as the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the European Doctoral Association in Management and Business Administration (EDAMBA), and the Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS), which, incidentally, has merited for UUM the honour of being the first Malaysian university to be a member of the said international organisation.
In addition to having obtained accreditation and being affiliated with international organisations, UUM also gained international recognition through the conferment of the Best Islamic Finance Education Provider 2017 Award by Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA), making it the third award bestowed upon UUM by this body.
Further, industry collaboration between UUM and UMW Grantt won UUM a fund worth MYR350, 000, research grants amounting to MYR150, 000, and the appointment of UPSB (now known as Uni Clean & Hygiene), a subsidiary of UUM’s business arm, as the official distributor of Grantt lubricant products.
As concerns success in terms of human capital, UUM implemented the Summer Gap Year in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) through the Gap Year programme, opened the second Manager's Coffee outlet, on Langkawi Island, and emerged champion (Management Category) in the 13th Public University Innovative and Creative Circle (ICC) Convention.
Present at the briefing were the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Dato' Mary Yap Kain Ching; the Secretary-General of the MoHE, Tan Sri Dr. Noorul Ainur Mohd Nur; the Director-General of the Department of Higher Education, Datin Paduka Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Tapsir, and senior MoHE officers.
