UUM ONLINE: The Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) undergraduates selected to become members of the elite society, Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) [UUM Chapter], were advised to acquire and emulate the four qualities of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in order to become great leaders.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, said that, as members of an elite society, BGS members needed to have exceptional leadership qualities and that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) would be the best example of a great leader.
"To become great leaders, students are encouraged to emulate the four attributes of the Prophet (pbuh), namely, Siddiq (Honesty), Amanah (Trustworthiness), Tabligh (Communicativeness) and Fatonah (Wisdom),” he said at An Afternoon Tea With the VC - a gathering with members of the UUM Chapter of BGS, at EDC Hotels and Resorts, recently.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, a leader should also have the attributes of humility and loyalty, as well as the gumption to abstain from the seven major sins that can destroy humanity, as listed by Mahatma Gandhi:- 1. Wealth without Work, 2. Pleasure without Conscience, 3. Knowledge without Character, 4. Commerce without Morality, 5. Science without Humanity, 6. Worship without Sacrifice, and 7. Politics without Principle.
BGS is the only academic honour society that confers recognition upon outstanding students in the field of business studies at institutions which are recognized by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). This includes UUM, which currently has a total of 75 members.
At the function, the Vice-Chancellor launched the UUM BGS YouTube Channel, a channel especially created to promote and share the activities of the UUM Chapter of BGS. The event was further enlivened by a dialogue session between the Vice-Chancellor and the members of BGS.
