UUM ONLINE: In efforts to mould a sophisticated entrepreneurial culture, the School of Business Management (SBM) and TEKUN Nasional (TEKUN) collaborated to organize the TEKUN-UUM SBM Basic Entrepreneurship Seminar at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall, yesterday.
The seminar, attended by more than 600 entrepreneurs from all over Kedah, was officiated by the Chairman of Women, Agriculture and Agro-Based Development, Entrepreneurial Development, Social Welfare Committee, Dato’ Suraya Yaacob , who represented the Kedah Menteri Besar.
In her speech, she said that choosing entrepreneurship as a career choice was not easy and one had to go through various challenges to stay relevant in the industry.
She said, among the constraints and challenges faced by entrepreneurs were from the aspects namely capital, competition, product marketing and also services.
According to her, the seminar would hopefully help entrepreneurs or participants obtain the real picture by increasing their knowledge to become successful entrepreneurs and able to stay in business.
Meanwhile, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek Abdul Karim, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, said UUM was committed in supporting and cooperating with the industry or any agency such as TEKUN towards the creation of more capable, competitive and successful entrepreneurs in line with the government's desire to transform Malaysia into a developing and high-income nation.
Hence, a survey worth more than MYR50,000 would be handled by UUM for free based on the spirit of cooperation with TEKUN.
"This study aims to look at the inclination of TEKUN entrepreneurs and it can be seen as having high value because the result of this study will enable profiles of entrepreneurs be form and this would in turn assist the management of TEKUN enhance their efforts in ensuring entrepreneurs have high levels of innovation and innovative as well as progressive in all industries involved.
"We also offer TEKUN entrepreneurs product marketing at the UUM SBM Business hub where entrepreneurs can work with UUM students to market their products at the business hub," he said.
Also held were the presentation of funding checks to TEKUN Nasional entrepreneurs and certificates of participation to Kedah TEKUN Branch Manager, witnessed by TEKUN Nasional Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dato' Baharom Embi and Dean of SBM, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah.
