UUM ONLINE: University students should be given opportunities and spaces which are conducive to facilitate their English Language acquisition.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said, to master English skills, students should be given the opportunity to practice what they had learnt in the classroom.
According to him, the best way to make it easier for them to master this English was to make learning sessions more interesting and fun by also incorporating learning outside of the classroom method as well.
"We also need to look at the methods and strategies used in English language teaching and learning sessions in the country, especially those involving students with low-proficiency.
"Hence, the carnival organized demonstrates that we are striving very hard to equip the younger generation with communication skills in English as well as other relevant skills to ensure their marketability when they graduate," he said at the MOHE English Carnival (ELCA) held at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall.
The carnival aptly themed, 'Have Fun In English', was officiated by Deputy Higher Education Minister, Dato' Dr. Mary Yap Kain Ching.
A total of 400 students from 20 Malaysian public universities participated in the games and activities throughout this carnival.
