CBM-2017 Addresses The Issues And Challenges Of The Fourth Industrial Revolution

UUM ONLINE: Penang – New ideas and more innovative approaches are essential in order to meet the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0), especially to ensure that the pool of highly-skilled graduates are ready for the job market. 

In this regard, the School of Business Management (SBM) Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) organised the 4th Conference on Business Management (CBM-2017) with the theme, Towards Industrial Revolution (IR) 4.0.

The opening ceremony of CBM-2017 was officiated by the Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak at The Gurney Resort Hotel and Residences.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Dato' Seri Vice-Chancellor said, the focus and agenda of the fourth edition of the conference was expanded to integrate the academic world and industry experts and this is seen as a significant effort to move towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

“The impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution will bring about major shifts in the way we think, work, and live in the 21st century. It is, therefore, vitally important that we gather on occasions such as this to gather information, discuss, and create networks of support in readiness to adapt ourselves to the contours of the inevitable changes that are to come”, said Prof. Dato' Seri Vice-Chancellor.

The highlights of the conference were the key-note addresses delivered by four leading experts in their respective fields i.e. Profesor Dr. Alexander Newman, R. Rajasingham, Madam Nora Abd. Manaf and Dr. Izhar Che Mee.

More than 200 papers covering topics including business management, entrepreneurship, marketing and human resources will be presented during the two-day conference.

At the same event, the Malaysian Productivity Corporation (MPC) presented the National Productivity Champion Award to the Dean of SBM, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah.

In addition, UUM also signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Kaduna State University, Nigeria to embark on various academic collaborative activities. The LoI was signed by Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak and the Vice-Chancellor of Kaduna State University, Prof. Muhammad Tanko.
