UUM ONLINE: The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Prof. Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak launched five textbooks written by UUM lecturers at his office, recently.
The idea to publish our own textbooks was the brainchild of the Vice-Chancellor himself who hoped that the textbooks used by lecturers and UUM students should be written by our own lecturers at the respective schools in UUM.
According to the Director of UUM Press, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ram Al-Jaffri Saad, the production of textbooks by the lecturers who teach the subjects at the respective schools is essential as it helps reduce the reliance on imported textbooks and increase the number of UUM publications.
"As a publisher, UUM Press has taken innovative steps to publish the books and we received full cooperation from all schools. For a start, five titles of the textbooks have been successfully published and used by UUM students this semester.
"The titles of the textbook already in use this semester are the Collection of Comprehensive Case and Business Accounting by the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy; Prinsip Undang-undang Di Bawah Akta Syarikat 2016 and Undang-Undang Perniagaan di Malaysia by the School of Law and Build Apps with MATLAP by the School of Technology Management and Logistics”, added Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ram.
Meanwhile, another four textbooks will be used in the coming semester as the manuscripts are still in the final process of getting published. Those books are Pengorganisasian Organisasi (School of Computing), Introduction to Human Resource Management In Tourism and Hospitality Industry (School of Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management), Pengantar Piskologi (School of Applied Psychology, Social Work and Policy) and Kenegaraan Malaysia (School of Education and Modern Languages).
