Graduates Should Keep An Open Mind As The Country Traverses The Threshold Of The Fourth Industrial Revolution

UUM ONLINE: 18 November - Graduates are reminded to keep an open mind and act in accordance with the cultural values and norms centred on the tenets of as the country traverses the threshold of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Tuanku Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia, Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah stated that, the Fourth Industrial Revolution has now become an important agenda of the government and the country.

His Royal Highness Tuanku Chancellor explained that, the Fourth Industrial Revolution is actually cyber-physical in nature. This is because robotic applications develop in tandem with artificial intelligence and become integrated with the "Internet of Things", which encompasses a wide range of software and equipment. The clash between humans and robots sparked the "Connected Intelligence Era."

“The Fourth Industrial Revolution simplifies human life with the help of robots. However, humans must also be prepared because their jobs and life will be affected by this technology.

“Thus, I would like to urge all Malaysians to be prepared to face the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. For that reason, the education system needs to be structured in keeping with the agenda of the 2050 National Transformation (TN50),” stated His Royal Highness Tuanku Chancellor at the Inauguration Ceremony of Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, the Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman as the new UUM Chancellor and the 30th Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Utara Malaysia at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall this morning.

Tuanku Chancellor further explained that the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia is devising a higher education policy to ensure that Malaysia remained competitive and turned into the Southeast Asian hub of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, specifically in relation to the Research and Development (R&D) efforts and also through the mergers and collaboration between universities and the industry.

Tuanku Chancellor asserted that UUM has the capacity to act as a catalyst and the prime mover in the successful realisation of this intention.

Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh, the Minister of Higher Education Malaysia presented the Inauguration document to Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, the Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman as the new UUM Chancellor at the Inauguration Ceremony of UUM Chancellor and the 30th Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Utara Malaysia.

Thenceforth, Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sallehuddin proclaimed the inauguration of Tunku Temenggong of Kedah, Yang Teramat Mulia Dato' Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Tunku Intan Safinaz Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah as UUM's new Pro-Chancellor, followed by the presentation of degrees to 363 graduates during the first session of the convocation ceremony.
