UUM ONLINE: 19 December - The Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) will bring along entirely different and wide-ranging disruptions or intrusion and this revolution is fundamentally changing the way we live.
Acknowledging the powerful impact of the IR4.0 on the society and the nation, the UUM Council of Professors took the initiative to organise a discourse session entitled IR4.0 Disruptions and Its Implications on the Malaysian Society at the EDC Hotels & Resorts, today.
In his keynote address, the Principal Fellow and Chief Information Officer of the National Council of Professors, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Zaki Abu Bakar said, the IR4.0 is a technological revolution that presents new challenges to the people in the country.
He stated that Professor Klaus Schwab, a world economic expert and a renowned expert who coined the term IR 4.0, wrote a comprehensive explanation on the new paradigm in his book- 'The Fourth Industrial Revolution' where he retraced the history of the world industrial revolution chronologically.
"Schwab described the IR 4.0 as the current wave of revolution and the people will encounter a range of new and different technologies.
"People will witness the emergence of future technologies such as smart robots, big data analytics, the internet of things (IoT), cloud computing, cyber security, and system integration," said Prof. Dr. Ahmad Zaki.
He added that, the IR4.0 triggered a disruption to all aspects of our daily lives. Thus, it is our hope that our nation will thrive in this new industrial revolution, the manufacturing and services industries will become more sophisticated and Malaysia will emerge as a global product manufacturing nation rather than just being a nation of consumers.
The discourse highlighted the fundamental issue of the disruptions brought by the IR4.0 and its impact on the people in the country. Notable scholars including Prof. Dato' Dr. Amir Hussin Baharuddin, Prof. Dr. Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Sani from UUM, Prof. Dr. Ali Selamat from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Prof. Dr. Ahmad Zaki were among the members of the panel. The session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Suhaidi Hassan.
