UUM ONLINE: "Continue to serve without putting much thought into reaping rewards; work and seek knowledge because of Allah the Almighty, surely the yield would be different.
"This is because knowledge that is blessed and doing work sincerely because of Allah the Almighty will be able to create boundaries that prevent us from doing something beyond the norms of life which will wager principles and integrity."
Thus, were the views of the President of UUM Academic Staff Association (PERSATU), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halim Mad Lazim in conjunction with the Vice-Chancellor's New Year Address 2018 which took place at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall.
According to him, competition in the world of higher education today was no longer the same as previously, in fact students and the world around had become more dynamic and they required the ability to change to adapt to this challenge.
"Hence, making changes in teaching and learning, adding new knowledge, using research to strengthen teaching besides the core of the university will continue to be dignified and philosophy of knowledge needs to be globalized by involving the elements of disposition and spiritual.
"The role of academic staff should always be strengthened, their welfare and support should also be enhanced apart from increasing opportunities to contribute ideas while every high-impact ideas to UUM should be rewarded," he said.
Meanwhile, the President of the Association of Administrative and Professional Officers (PERPATI), Major Mohamad Ezanee Yazid said staff needed to appreciate all the directives delivered because without the strong cooperation amongst members of staff, all the goals of the University might not be achieved.
In addition, the efforts made by the University to commercialize existing resources should be praised as it would help to generate finance in the name progress for the University.
He further reiterated that the five items in terms of virtue mentioned by the Vice-Chancellor should be held and practiced by members of staff at all levels so that devotion to the university and stakeholders would be the foundation of the future success and achievement of the University.
In addition he said that the successful track record of the universities in 2016 and 2017 encouraged all staff to work hard to achieve even more successes in 2018.
"PERPATI's plans for 2018 will be based on the mandate delivered especially on finance generation as well as ensuring the enhancement of competence of officers from the various levels.
"I hope that members of staff from the various levels will continue to work hard and work as a team and face the challenges of the IR 4.0 era with high-spirit in order to realize the goals of the University in particular and the Ministry of Higher Education in general," he said.
Meanwhile, President of UUM Student Representative Council (MPP), Mr. Muhammad Luqman Jamalil Idrus addressed the issue of Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) which were faced by many and had become an important agenda for educational institutions in ensuring that the products they produced would meet the demands of the market.
"I hope that 2018 under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor will bring in more awards to boost the University's ranking and elevate the standing of UUM in the eyes of the international community.
"This will enable graduates from UUM to easily obtain jobs hence giving positive feedback to the industry that UUM graduates are able to meet the needs of the industry," said the student of the Bachelor of Public Administration programme.
