Northern Zone Training Camp Unified ROTU Cadet Officers

UUM ONLINE: 9 February - After having gone through various obstacles, the cadet officers of the Reserve Officer Training Unit (ROTU) from three public universities were honoured at the ROTU Cadet Officers Steadfast Night held at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall yesterday.

The cadet officers from UUM, Universiti Sains Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Perlis successfully completed the Annual Northern Zone Malaysian Army ROTU Training Camp for 15 days which began on 26 January.

Deputy Commander of the UniMAP ROTU, Lieutenant Colonel Prof. Dr. Zaliman Sauli said that after 15 days at UUM, he expressed hope that all the cadet officers would have acquired the impact and positive knowledge, resulted from the combined training of three public universities located in the northern zone which was held for the first time.

According to him, the training provided basic exposure to military knowledge and discipline as military officers.

"With this annually held training camp, we managed to unite ROTU cadet officers from three public universities and practice together, apart from successfully coordinating all trainings although different teams were involved.

"I hope the joint exercises will be held more frequently as it brings together the hearts of all cadet officers and they can meet new friends," he said.

He also expressed hopes that the cadet officers, who successfully completed the training, especially senior cadets, would make the annual camp training a catalyst for continuing their careers as permanent members or reserve officers after commissioning.

Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Farizal Rajemi, who represented UUM Vice-Chancellor, said the training was history in the making for UUM as it successfully united three public universities with the involvement of 900 cadet officers.

He said that UUM alone had about 400 ROTU cadet officers and participation in the uniform body would become added value to students when they graduate in the future.
